There's something there!
Hi All
I'm just back from my Ultrasound scan and the news is that there is a large adenoma on the left side (not sure if upper or lower). The Doctor doing the scan spent 5 minutes looking at the sestamibi scan from last week before saying anything, which at the time seemed ever so rude! However she was able to pinpoint the parathyroid right away and did say that she'd never found one so easily and that it was patently obvious because it was large. She didn't find the right side ones at all but she said that they tend to shrink when one is enlarged...? Has anyone heard that before? My only worry would be that the surgeon would head on into the left side and not bother to check the right side.
I'm seeing the Endo next week so I hope he's got plenty of time to answer all my questions. I'm still not quite sure whether to be elated that they've found something or upset because there was always some part of me that really hoped all this wasn't happening to me. And in a strange sort of way, I feel guilty that my journey has been practically trouble free whereas so many of you have had years of frustrations trying to get diagnosed in the first place.
They always seem to have been fairly interested in me because their policy is to prioritise treatment for those under 50 and also because I have a rare disease which excites any doctor I've ever come across and may or may not be connected.
Anyway, I suppose I can look forward to getting beyond my parathyroidectomy! I really need to find a silver lining somewhere

Yippee! Well done Brigitte! Well done to your doctors too!
What a relief for you. You now have a reason for feeling ill! No time for guilt or feeling upset!
A similar thing happened to me with my scan. The radiologist found the enlarged parathyroid easily.
I could have kissed the poor man I felt so relieved!
Hope your surgery is soon

Well, it looks like another parathyroid tumor is about to bite the dust!! Yay!!
No, Brigitte, don't feel guilty. Those of us who had a rough time getting diagnosed and are still suffering are elated that someone else didn't have to go through all the crap we did! So very happy for you!!
Yes, please do keep us posted.

Hi Brigitte,
Really pleased that they have managed to locate your adenoma, I think I would be elated as well but also full of trepidation. Wishing you a continuing smooth journey in getting better soon and hope they do not make you wait too long before removing it.
