Any headache sufferers? Empty Any headache sufferers?

Hi

I haven't been diagnosed with HPTH but am going through some tests and it's not being ruled out. I've suffered with headaches for nearly a year and I know according to Dr Norman's website, one of the symptoms of HPTH is headaches, especially for under 40's, I'm nearly 31. I seem to have a lot of twinges in my neck and sometimes the headaches stem from the back of my neck and I just feel pressure on top of my head and my forehead, almost like someone is squeezing the front of my head. As well as the brain fog, my eyes just feel like they're strained and glazed all the time and sometimes accompanied by a twitch.
Does anyone else experience headaches or anything like this?

Thank you

Hi I get this a lot it's exactly the same pain as you have described, I'm currently about 3 weeks into this episode with no end in sight. I'm 51 so a lot older but it's horrible and affects every day life.

Hi Amanda
Sorry to hear you're going through the same, it's so frustrating and yes, it affects everyday life, 24/7! I'm the same as you, about 3 weeks of headache, eye pressure and just everything else that goes with it :-(

Oh, let me tell you about headaches!!! My head hurt to some degree every darned day for over 3 years straight!!! Most days it was horrible. Some days it was just bad. I still get little bouts of pain now, but it's nothing like it was before, and it doesn't last more than an hour or two at a time now. I have also had horrible neck pain for 3-1/2 years nonstop now! It is very stiff and very painful on both sides and in the back. I also had very severe cramping in my neck for 3 years straight before surgery, and then it got even worse AFTER surgery for several months! The cramping has let up a lot over the past couple of months, but it is still VERY stiff and painful. I often wonder if the head is hurting due to the neck pain. I would have to say that the neck pain and the plantar fasciitis have been the most painful symptoms for me through all of this.

Well, well, now I wonder if my headaches have anything to do with HPT. I've had migraines and all sorts for about 25 years or more, but a few years ago, identified a different type of headache, starting in the back of the neck, lodging also in the top of my head and popping my eye out. I was referred back to my friendly Neurologist, (I don't like him), who insisted it was to do with migraines and was more concerned with my sleep pattern and decided I was sleep deprived. I had a long term problem sleeping properly anyway throughout my life so that was true enough. Anyway, he prescribed a muscle relaxant to take at night which would also help me sleep and it did vastly improve the neck problem so I wouldn't wake up with it in a knot quite so often. In the last few months, the neck and headache malarkey came back, lasting weeks at a time as you say. The best relief would be from the Chiropractor clicking my neck back, but it would never last. My neck has been much better since I got one of those water pillows recommended by Nelly (I think) some weeks back. The headache never really goes away, but I've learned to live with it better. I had thought it was just due to me and my migraines/headaches, but maybe it's not after all.

Hi Brigette
Wow that is very interesting, it sounds exactly like myself. Although my headaches have only started in the past year but I've always put the tension down to having a 5 year old in my bed, but even if I do get a good nights sleep, which isn't often, I still ache. I was put on Amitriptyline for a few weeks to see if it helped the nerves and knots but nothing helps, no amount of massages or early nights help.

I really do sympathise with you. What dose of Amitriptyline are you on? That's what I'm on now but it took more than a few weeks to make a difference and even then it doesn't always work and I know lots of people who have taken it for various reasons and it seems to work ok for some people and not others.

As far as sleeping goes, that was definitely improved by a bit of comfort in the pillow department. I was sceptical at first, both with the cost and with putting water into my pillow, but it really is the most comfortable pillow I've ever owned and my neck is very appreciative! This is the one I got if you're interested:

Hi Brigitte and Lucie

When you mentioned the eye thing it rang a bell with me as my husband suffers from a rare neurological headache condition called SUNCT syndrome and his right eye figures prominently in his symptoms, as well as excruciating pain.  It's one of the Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgias (TACs) of which Cluster headache is one, and there are various headache conditions under this umbrella.  The national centre of excellence for these conditions is at the Neurological Hospital in Queen Square, London.  Why not check out OUCH.com and see if you can relate your symptoms to one of these headache conditions?  Because headache is a major persistent symptom with PHPT we tend to assume it's due to this, but it may not be ...... just a thought.

Thanks Jasmine, I will have a look at that website.
Brigitte I'm no longer on Amitiptyline, it was last year but only a very small dose of 20mg, it did nothing for me and I wasn't keen on the idea of being on those tablets to be honest. I recently had an eye test and there were no problems with nerves behind my eyes, it's just an enormous amount of pressure/tension that seems to be all in my neck and sometimes ears!
