Saw FP yesterday - Mild Primary HPT
Hi Everyone
Just a quick update as I've to dash back to the local hospital for some medical records - but - I saw FP yesterday and basically he said that anyone with eyes to see and knowledge of primary HPT could see from my bloods chart that my calcium and PTH and were totallyout of balance indicating primary HPT (not secondary due to a Vit D deficiency that is now no more - and certainly not tertiary as my kidney function is not bad - eGFR over 60).
He told me to get myself referred back to him on the NHS at the Hammersmith and he will arrange for a day of tests, and then it's adios adenoma if they find one as well (as the local hospital did).
I'm a bit stunned by it all - although probably more hung over as for a little celebration after the consult Peter and I toddled off to Leicester Square and sat outside The Cambridge (next to where Les Mis was on) with a bottle of Nottage Hill Australian red and watched the world go by (as well as the fascinating new Routemaster buses) just like we used to do when we lived in Putney.
It was a great day all round! Cats to everyone - here, have a nice cat ! !!
Back later - Love to All from Tigerlily xx

Re: Saw FP yesterday - Mild Primary HPT
Thanks so much everyone! You know who you are !
We didn't talk about how long it would be before the tests etc., but I'll take it one step at a time now that I'm heading in the right direction.
He really didn't seem to be bothered about any endo input from my side as he could read my blood results chart and see from that how things stood. It sounds as though his Hammersmith Clinic is the real-deal one-stop shop in that he has endo' and pituitary people on hand for any other stray things that need ruling out.
I really got the impression that if I had asked my GP to refer me to him on the NHS and sent with that referral letter my blood chart/symptoms list/relevant medical history/etc. and he felt from that information that I might have HPT, he would have accepted me into his Hammersmith Clinic for investigation. The reason I didn't do that in the first place was because when I contacted Andrew McLaren direct he eventually stepped back from diagnosing me himself because I had no endo's referral only my GP's - and neither did he refer me to a endo at his hospital that could have provided the required input and ruled pHPT either in or out.
So if anyone wishes to give the NHS Hammersmith Clinic a try (and what have we got to lose apart from a few adenoma between us?), the details are:
Fausto Palazzo's Sec. is Sophie: 020 7100 8086
Email: surgical.secretary@googlemail.com (It will appear as 'Mr Palazzo and Miss Atkins' - but Miss Atkins has been replaced by Sophie.)
I have quite odd eyesight problems, and loss of peripheral vision, and these can be a sign of a pituitary disorder (especially if there is a pHPT adenoma as well), so I'm still not out of the woods on that front in terms of having a pit problem definitively ruled out - and at 62 I could do with having it ruled out sooner rather than later, so I can just have the pHPT adenoma removed and then dash off into the sunset of my twilight years screaming wooooo! hooooooo!
But I expect FP's team will be able to deal with that last detail.
So thanks to you all, you Lovely People, for all your cats and encouragement (and the sunshine & flowers, Jasmine! nice for a change!), and I'll let you know what FP says in his letter to my GP that should arrive next week.
Meanwhile, y'All, HPT warrior armour on, chins firmly up and 'all for one and one for all' !
Lots of Love from Tigerlily xx (these are quite nice too ....!)

Yipee Tigerlily you are on your way. Glad you took time out to celebrate you dissever it. That is interesting on your eyesight and pituitary disorder. I know phpt can cause cataracts and also it can effect the muscles in your eyes due to fatigue. Heres to dashing off in the sunset screaming wooooohoooo.

Hi Tigerlily,
Ohh what fantastic news for you! Fridays and Saturdays are busy days for me so this is the first chance I have had time to sit down and write and say I am so pleased and happy for you. You must really feel that you have climbed another rung up the ladder. I hope you do not have to wait too long before you are sent an appointment. Gosh and whoopy whoops, finally some progress for you.
Hugs Sue

Re: Saw FP yesterday - Mild Primary HPT
Thanks so much, Sue!
I haven't really whoopy whooped yet, but I really should!
I'll do a few more cats, that should do it!
Only problem is that I think Mr P thinks it's not urgent as it's only "mild". And I agree with the American view that you either have it or you don't, so mild doesn't come into it. I think by mild they mean they've caught it early in its progression. That sits a bit better with me.
Strange how things sometimes happen, isn't it? If the jaw swelling hadn't come up on the side of my face (something actually visible), and if the young locum doctor hadn't seen it and taken my distress about it seriously and included the throat area as well as the side of my face in the US, I would not yet even have been put in for an ultrasound, on which the possible HPT adenoma showed up.
I had been refused an US by a local endo and my GP couldn't order an US to look for a parathyroid adenoma because the instruction seems to have to come from an endo.
Anyway - I'm a step further forward now and will report back on what FP writes in his letter to my GP.
Thanks for your good wishes, Sue, and have a good weekend.

Re: Saw FP yesterday - Mild Primary HPT
YAY, Tigerlily!! I needed some good news on a very cloudy, rainy day here. This is wonderful! I'm happy you had the chance to celebrate, as celebrate you should!! Not many emoticons left to post that nobody else has yet, but here ya go....... !!!
I would like to say here that things have been nuts here at our house, which is why I have not posted much lately. Please don't think I'm not interested in your posts. I just simply have not had time for the computer! Not only am I still researching my own health issues and getting to appointments, etc., we've been VERY busy getting ready for a huge family reunion next weekend. It would seem we've been ignoring many things around here that needed taken care of, so now we're going nuts trying to do so! After the reunion is over, my brother and his family will be around til the 4th of July, so things are not going to slow down anytime soon. I try to at least keep up with your posts, even if I don't have time to post anything myself. I am very sorry for that. I will post when I do get the chance.
Back to work! Love and miss you all!
Audrey
