Sestimibi and Ultrasound
Well, I have my appointment for next Thurs 19th @ 10:15am. Feeling little nervous but also little worried as was told I shouldn't be too close to under 5's for 24hrs. I have a 5 year old and 3 and half year old and my husband is actually away with work from Mon-Fri next week, typical. I was told I shouldn't have close contact for more than 15 minutes within that 24hrs, i.e. cuddles, sitting on laps and even laying in beds. The dose is only X-Ray dosage, is that right? Just concerned as I've had CT in the past and didn't want too much radiation exposure.
Anyone who has had the Sestimibi and U/S, how did you find them?

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
Hi Lucie
I had my mibi and US 2 weeks ago. Apart from being a very long morning it was fine.
The mibi is the one that takes the time, I had the iv injection then 2x10 minute scans together, then after an hour had another 10 minute scan then another hour and a 10 +5 minute scan then another 10 minute one after the final hour and I had the US fitted in between that lot.
I found it very uncomfortable for my neck as you have to lie with your head slightly back and more so for the US, plus the scanner is very close to your face so not good if you are claustrophobic ! I shut my eyes which solved that problem.
It seems hospitals have their own way of doing the mibi so your experience may be different. There are no side effects from the mibi except an aching neck in my case
Hope it goes well.

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
I had successful mibi back in January - it's not painful, just dull. As Nelly says, the scanner is very close to your face and it can feel intimidating but if you focus your thoughts in other parts of the room for example, it’s tolerable.

Hi Lucie
I've had the pleasure of two mibi's both were slightly different but I found shutting my eyes helped as the scanner is too close to focus on and makes you you slightly x eyed
I've also had a CT and that doesn't take long.
Not sure about not being near young children mine are 20 & 25 so I didn't have that problem.
You could ring the department and ask their advice.
Good luck with the scans.

I have had 2 sestamibi scans and was never told that. I agree with Amanda maybe call the dept and ask for their advice. I don't have small children at home but they didn't know that. Good luck on the scans.

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
It is printed in the scan info leaflet and they give advice when the scan is done. I have thrown mine out but it says to limit contact time with small children and pregnant ladies for 24 hours and i was given a printed sheet with details of scan and dose in case i needed dental or medical treatment in the 24 hours afterwards.

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
Mine was a cancellation appointment and I didn't get the leaflet until I got there, but I remember it saying to ring the department for advice if you had young children under 5, so it would probably be best to do that.
It seems that every hospital does the sestamibi scan in a slightly different way because some of my scans were 20 minutes long and I did find keeping perfectly still for that length of time quite difficult. The technician person was great though and made sure I was perfectly warm and comfortable and even put the radio on for me. The scanner comes quite close but you can always close your eyes. It's natural to worry about it, but it's just something you have to get through and then put behind you. I had the U/S on a different day and because I'd already had the sestamibi which had shown the adenoma, they zeroed on it quickly.
I'd ring the department and ask about your children just for peace of mind. Best of luck.

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
I am extremely claustrophobic, but I was so excited to finally be in Tampa and scheduled for surgery to end my long, horrible hell, they could have stuck my head in a tiny box for the entire day, and I would not have cared one bit!! The Sestamibi was a breeze. Not a problem at all! You'll be fine, Lucie. Just keep thinking that you'll be 1 step closer to being healthy and happy again!

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
I'm assuming they'll be able to tell me at the appointment if they see an Adenoma?

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
Not necessarily Lucie, they told me all the scans have to be looked at together in sequence along with the US.

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
Lucie my first one they said something looked possible, in US he said he could see it.
My second post op the woman didn't even want to talk to me so I didn't bother asking and yes they usually want to pass it on to get everything assessed together.
Good luck xx

Re: Sestimibi and Ultrasound
I have had quite a few scans for various reasons over the years, and the techs have NEVER wanted to tell me their thoughts on what they were viewing. Some would let me watch the screen as the test was being performed, but they would not comment, and I would not have known if there was a problem simply by looking myself, so I've always had to wait for the letter in the mail or the call from the doctor.
