He mentioned that no one should ever never have venous sampling . I have read on parathyroid .com that he said that in a very small paragraph that is was costly and invasive and not always right. But so is all the other scans. No scan is a 100 percent. All I said is[ what is wrong with venous sampling,] hoping he would go into more detail but no he deleted my question. Okay I am over it now and made my own self laugh as I am writing this. I was just hoping to learn more about it, oh well.

Should say that Dr Norman was telling a poster that she should not of had venous sampling, that he smelled trouble brewing. So I was in hope he would have explained that. Dog gone it.

Well, that wasn't very nice of him, was it? Guess he just didn't feel like answering it? Still not nice!  Crying or Very sad

You are right, Kathi, none of the scans are 100%, and in a lot of cases the venous sampling is the only way of finding a very well-hidden tumor. If the doctors know there is a tumor in there, and they can't find it any other way, why would a person not have venous sampling? I would.

Kathi,
I appreciate Dr Normans knowledge but when I read the rules he put down when he was starting his message board I thought they were too stifling.  He had so many rules.
I just don't know why a person can't wonder or suggest something.
I thought the atmosphere was too autocratic? or something.
What is the purpose of a message board if a person cannot question something or ask or discuss something.

Hi Kathi
Good that you can laugh about it.

I was on the receiving end of a blistering email from him about adjusted calcium!!
I think he just gets a bee in his bonnet about things occasionally.

One or two forum members have had veinous sampling, I believe.
Perhaps they will answer any questions if you have any.

Love from Tigerlily xx

Yes, from what I've heard from others, it seems as if Dr. Norman sometimes gets the entire hive in his bonnet!  affraid  I have never experienced anything negative with him personally though. He has always been absolutely wonderful when I've dealt with him. Thank goodness.

As far as the venous sampling goes, I have heard very positive reports from people who've had them performed.

FP has pencilled me in for it, plus a 4D CT, pending the result of my CaSR test to rule out FHH. He told me that in complex cases where it is clear there is a possibly ectopic PT adenoma in situ somewhere which cannot be located in focused imaging, especially in cases of previous surgery failing to cure, he wouldn't attempt further surgery without venous sampling as it provides a guide on where to start to hunt for it. Can you imagine having a tumour buried somewhere in the mediastinum and having the surgeon dig around from the neck incision to try and find it? There was a post recently on the closed Facebook group from a poor lady in the UK who that happened to and her surgery lasted five and a half hours! I'll take whatever test is offered to try and find the bloomin' thing! And yes, I've been on the receiving end of a smokin' email from the delightful Dr Norman. When you actually meet him he's the sweetest, kindest man but he is VERY forceful and dogmatic about his views, to the point of rudeness (remember the monkeys and goats comment about other doctors?) and won't be persuaded to concede an inch if it's something he doesn't believe in.

Jasmine,
I have picked up on the dogmatic approach  before.
So glad FP has the very best testing planned for you.     He sounds like a wonderful Dr. and he sounds like he's going to appraoach pinning down where this offending gland is in a systematic way.

Keep us posted.

Well, nobody's perfect, but Dr Norman does strike me as a person that likes things going his way. Luckily, there are other surgeons and other points of view: it's what makes the world go round  Wink

Jasmine, it's lovely to see you back on the forum and I'm glad that FP is on your case with options for moving forwards so that you can get to the bottom of it all.

Love and hugs

Thanks everyone for the response . Nancy I guess I didn't read the rule's. I did notice that is not a give and take type of forum. I do respect his opinion, I don't go along with just everything he says. I do think venous sampling has helped out a lot of peeps, hopefully some of us . Love you all Kathi.
