Growth Hormone test....... Help with figuring it out.
Hi All I have today received my latest bloods and Glucose suppression test. There was no covering letter or comment from Endo which I find quite rude, it's like you wanted the results you work them out
I need some help as I think I know what they mean but my brain is struggling.
Oh before I start
Calcium 2.68 (range 2.1-2.55)
Corrected 2.60
PTH 3.8 (range 1.5-7.6)
It says normal response: Basal IGF1 within age-related reference range (41-60yrs) 9-40 nmol/L
Mine is 17.8
At least one GH concentration falls to <0.60 ug/L following oral glucose load.

For Acromegaly
GH levels in most cases do not fall from their initial high fasting levels and may show a paradoxical rise. Basal IGF1 level is elevated.
I'm hoping that my levels show normal response, well that's how I'm reading, please if you read this differently let me know, I'm ready for any response.
You would have thought that a "caring" doctor could have just put a note in with this as I've said on 3 emails how stressed and concerned I was about result.

Well Amanda, I haven't the foggiest idea to be honest and I can't understand why there wasn't some form of communication from the Endo. Surely if it was abnormal, it would have been flagged up or the Endo would have stirred from sitting on his/her posterior to request communication with you? I would take it that the results were normal and move on, though I would be offended that the Endo's courtesy was lacking. "Offended" was the politest word I could think of there.
I'm sorry I can't help further, but take these many cyber hugs which work much better than my brain. I did look up Growth Hormone Test results and I couldn't take it in, I'm afraid. I spelt my name wrong this morning on a form I had to fill in; I wish my parents had given me an easy name and I hadn't married a man with a surname nobody can spell either! I also wish my brain was in gear, but you can't have everything.

I agree with you Endo is downright rude or shes thinking ok smarty pants you want to keep asking for stuff and asking difficult questions, well.... Figure this out !!!!

<0.60 is higher than <0.1 - don't worry, it takes me a long time to work these things out - speaking them out loud as well! - and I also did accounts for our own business!
So if your levels are less than 0.1, I think they are showing a normal response. But I think it depends what sort of test you had. Did you have the sweet glucose drink and then measurements taken afterwards? Was it called a "GH suppression test" or "glucose loading tests" - which I think refer to the same type of test, the one being another name for the other.
www.WebMD.com/a-to-z-guides/growth-hormone states that GH normally drops to less than 1 ng/mL (that is <0.1) following the "GH suppression/glucose loading test".
Gawd, it's complicated! But I think you're in the clear as far as acromegaly goes (with all the usual caveats of not being a medical person, etc.!).
It's so rude of your endo not to include an explanation. Even if we sound as though we know what we are talking about, they should give their view. Why not send an email and ask for their take on the results, as an explanation of them "was unfortunately not included when they were sent". (Who are these people?!!)
Hope we're both right - but let me know what the official version is!

Hi Tigerlily thanks for replying, my brain hurts trying to figure this out, give me VAT any day.

I always find it handy to use the words "and I shall be very upset if ... happens".
My Addenbrookes doc thinks she has passed me onto someone else now I'm investigating pituitary function too, and that she is in the clear now (of not diagnosing pHPT when the biochem was staring her in the face) - and she didn't refer me to the PTH Clinic either, where someone with more experience than her in pHPT should have spotted it ... Little does she know I have an appointment with her registrar very soon !
You're strong, Amanda. Stay on your high horse whilst you get through all this. And then you'll be seeing FP very soon, I'll wager!!

As you say ATM my horse is very high at least 18 hands Couldn't find a horse so a cat will do. I can't wait to be able to say "I'm contacting FP" I think I will be so excited ( oh my gawd I just wrote sexcited)

Hi Brigitte my views of FP have been through information given by the very naughty Tigerlily & Jasmine. I'm thinking ASBO might be more in my case A Silly Big Oldie.

Jasmine pictures not working !!!! I looked up google too and images and the 1st three were him ( looks lovely and smiley) followed by some very strange people and a woman with a ginger perm. The fact that he is so good at his job is obviously the reason you've chosen him but it helps that he's a lovely friendly person who you can relate to.

Brigitte haha it wont last, it's probably 20 years of working in the construction industry ( no I'm not a bricklayer!!!) admin side and dealing with big hairy a***d builders! you have to have a very good sense of humour.
Either that or flutter your eyelashes and smile sweetly, it soothes most tricky situations, when most of the men are twice my size. A bacon butty also does the same job
Yes I do get a right misery when I'm feeling pants and I'm so glad you guys are here for me and know exactly how I feel and allow me to whinge and moan and not judge me.
