Had my ultrasound today and she could see a lump:-) She couldn't tell from that scan whether it was on the thyroid or parathyroid but as my consultants are both convinced I have hyperparathyroidism the next step is surgery. Not thrilled at going under the knife as I don't feel too bad at present (it's easy to forget how bad things have been when the symptoms ease for a while) but the reduced life span thing is a real shocker. Just need to wait for my next ent appointment to sort out dates - is it selfish to hope that it's in term time?

I'm a happy bunny!

Yay! One step closer to being on the other side of the pHPT nightmare! Good news Meggy - and of course it's OK to wish for a term time date with the scalpel .... ! When I decided to retire from the NHS I worked for a few years as a school nurse (Matron) in a private independent school (and yes, I got all the oo-er Matron jokes from friends and family ......) and twice I had to have term time off, once for a hip operation and again when I broke my ankle tripping up on fresh air, although I must admit I did arrange for my hip operation to tag on to the Easter hols.

GREAT news, Meggy!!!!  cheers  It won't be long now! So very happy for you! Soon you will be able to join those of us on the other side, and it's a good place to be.  Very Happy  It's been very rough for me post-op, but it's not the HPT causing the problem now. I'm VERY happy to have that all behind me. Soon it will all be behind you too! YAY!

Keep her on potato juice or make her nominated driver.

What am I saying? If she can trip on air she can probably drive into invisible cars!

Good news Meggy! It's nice that you don't feel so bad at present - I've rather forgotten what that's like.

We'll have to keep an eye on you at the Ritz, Jasmine if you can trip on fresh air. I'll divert attention when I knock something over, no doubt. I always do that, or drop things and I don't even drink! Just drunk on the atmosphere, lol.

Love and hugs

Meggy

Thats good news and a step in the right direction.
No its not selfish to wish it within term time, suffering with HPTH excuses you from everything.

Take Care

Hi Meggy,
That is wonderful news that they found it first time.  It will definitely be a green light for surgery and getting the dratted thing out.  I think you will feel infinitely better once it is done.  I wish you alll the best and hope you get a date soon.

Thanks everyone, Lincolnshire may be a bit of a cultural backwater but I've really struck lucky so far with my doctors and consultants. I'm just grateful that I saw the locum first who started this process rather than my actual gp who saw me after I'd been diagnosed who said they were wrong and it was a vitamin d deficiency - not least because I'd never have found this forum; double sigh of relief there!
