Letter from Endo to GP
I`m slowly getting all my reports and letters together from various hospitals.
Todays letter might make you smile "Secondary hyperparathyroidism could be a possibility except that it would not explain the high calcium".
To say i do not feel in safe hands is a understatement.

Re: Letter from Endo to GP
O-M-G ....... What is wrong with these so called medical professionals!!!!!!!
The idiot GP told me today that he's retiring next week; I didn't know whether to laugh or cry because although he's an idiot, he's the lesser of the other idiots in the practice, so now I feel completely cut adrift as far as having a competent GP goes. When I asked him who I should see in future who might know a bit about parathyroid disease he said "try Dr B....... he seems a bright lad, from Cambridge ....." Oh well that's OK then, as long as he's from Cambridge I know I'll be OK ...... Ye Gods......

Oh dear, it's really not acceptable that we are relying on these people to cure us.
Jasmine I shall check that all my further dealings are only with medics from Cambridge, wonder if Fausto Polazzo!!!!! is from Cambridge !!!!! I'm sure he must be, it's a good old Cambridgeshire name.

Re: Letter from Endo to GP
I just wrote stuff and it's disappeared! And my brain fog can't repeat it now.
Mel, you have an idiot Endo! I can't believe he said something so inept!
Jasmine, perhaps Dr Bright Spark from Cambridge might have something worthwhile to say! If not, you can teach him. Mould him into someone useful! Hope your idiot doctor enjoys retirement. He's probably looking forward to it. Hope you're going to contribute to a leaving prezzie after all he's done for you!!!
Love and hugs

Thats where I`ve gone wrong with my locum endo I don't think she from Cambridge. I will suggest when they eventually appoint a permanent endo they put it on the person specification.

Re: Letter from Endo to GP
Ye Gods, Mel - he's right, though, if it were secondary HPT (from Vit D deficiency, for example) then the Ca would be LOW.
So the next thought he should have should be: therefore it must be primary hyperparathyroidism - and that can only be due to an enlarged parathyroid gland.
They all seem to be looking to diagnose HPT SECONDARY TO SOMETHING ELSE, rather than pure and simple primary HPT.
He's half way there, Mel, but struggling with the next thought of primary HPT. I would ask for a neck ultrasound in the hope of something showing up (although neck US is not conclusive as they don't always show up via that method).
Keep us posted - Love Tigerlily xxxx

Re: Letter from Endo to GP
Hi Jasmine
If your proposed new GP was taught at Cambridge Medical School, he will probably have come into contact with the Clinical Dean of the Cambs Med School, responsible for all teaching there, and that is - guess who - my Honorary Consultant Thyroid Endo there - Dr W - who missed my PTH adenoma and refused me an US scan for 16 months, claiming it was only slightly raised calcium (2.73) and PTH (which got up to 12 eventually) due to continued secondary HPT due to my having had a Vitamin D deficiency in Feb 2013 (that I immediately and swiftly corrected).
I rest my case.
I can see this continually going round in circles and my head hurts with the frustration of it all.
I shall be seeing Dr W tomorrow for a routine thyroid check-up. I think I shall be asking her to assure me that she understands about the inappropriateness of calcium and PTH both being high in their respective ranges at the same time from the same blood draw. If she does not, then she is responsible for the teaching of the wrong information to many medical students ............... and the example of your new doctor being from Cambridge is just what I need to press my point home about this!
Having said that, he might be just the right guy for you to have on your side. I've had better help from GP registrars and locums recently. They have been on top of their game and the latest research and one of them knew all about HPT! I hope you get a good one!

Re: Letter from Endo to GP
Mel that is such a shame. If you have high calcium it is not secondary to low vit D.
Tigerlily I want to be the fly on the wall when you go for your appointment.

Good luck with your Endo appointment, hope you get the reassurance from her that she fully understands the importance of inappropriate calcium and PTH levels !!!!

Re: Letter from Endo to GP
Thanks so much Amanda and Jasmine - I do need to get tough today - and you both state quite succinctly exactly what it is I need to drive home to her.
She was able to rush me out of the room last time on the pretence of checking to see if the pituitary specialist would agree to see me, and probably doesn't know I'm due back today for the results of the DEXA scan, which I know will be osteopenia -2.0 at left hip because my local hospital did one that showed this.
If I don't think she's taking it all on board and understands the relationship between Ca/PTH/Vit D in primary HPT I will have to take this further - NICE if necessary!! - because of her position at Cambridge Medical School.
Will post later - when I've taken the time out to calm down afterwards - your support means a great deal to me.
