Hi everyone

ThyroidUK would like to add us to their resources list of useful websites  cheers

Now, I have to do a post on their forum announcing that our forum is up and running so my question is do I aim it at Hyperpth people only or include Hypopth people as well ? would any of us be able to and also feel comfortable about advising on Hypopth and other calcium issues ? I know there have been quite a few people recently on the TUK forum asking about calcium and parathyroid disease so it will be useful to have a link over there.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Hi Nelly, correct me if I'm wrong but I think there's already a support website for hypoPT? I'll see if I can post the link.

They seem to be the experts on hypoPT.  Not sure that I would be comfortable advising on this although I'm happy to provide support and perhaps signpost people to this organisation? I haven't looked at the site properly to see if they have a forum, I'll take a look.

Shame we can't access it without registering , might do it just to be nosey and see how active they are.

I feel the same Jasmine, happy to support but as none of us has Hypopth it might be difficult to relate to anyone with it.

I thought it worth asking for opinions before I compose a post, think I will aim it at Hyperpth.

By the way I am still thinking about the Simon post, just need to sit down and type something, I think of things to say while I'm walking the dogs but have forgotten by the time I get home,
I will get there in the end !

Me too Nelly, I've had the attention span and memory capacity of a gnat for so long now but strangely the thought processes flow more freely when I'm out with my dogs too, must be the therapeutic nature of pet ownership..... I make sure I have my phone with me whenever I'm out now so that I can record my thoughts and ideas otherwise they just disappear into the ether ........

In light of this discussion, would it be appropriate (and to avoid confusion) to replace the word 'Parathyroid' with 'Hyperparathyroid' on this forum?

Do you mean in the forum title? If so, I think that would make sense.  As you say, it would avoid confusion and I can't recall many posts, if any, on the old forum about hypoPTH, only in the event of going temporarily hypo following surgery for hyper.

It looks like I am able to change the website address to www.hyperhyperparathyroid.forumotion.co.uk

Does anyone object to this, or should we leave it as-is?

Hi Nelly and Jasmine
I had seen the Hypo website and if I remember correctly(prob not) it has a small mention re Hyper. I guess it's a signpost so we could do the same. The new forum is great, well done it must have been hard work.

www.hyperparathyroid.org.uk is available at a reasonable cost.

£6.98 + VAT for 2-years, then £3.49 + VAT per year

Mmmmm! You're already giving so much of yourselves in terms of time in administering this wonderful forum, I don't think we should be asking you to commit financially too! I'm more than happy to contribute towards any running costs.

The big question is whether it is worth giving the forum a more memorable website address?

It's really up to the members and their (your) thoughts on the future/longevity of this forum.

I do not have a strong opinion on this, apart from the tidyness and professionalism of having a 'proper' website address.

Well, putting aside the financial implication, yes I agree, it would be good to have a more professional looking web address.

Hi everyone, I think it would be good to have 'hyper' in the website address if this is possible.
How strange that so many people on here have benefited from some 'pet therapy'.  I also value my thinking time when out with my little Cavalier.  She's called Rosie, and we got her on the     1st October 2011, hence my user name Rosie11011.  I'll not post a photo of her though, as I don't want any new members who are not 'pet people' to feel in anyway uncomfortable on the forum.  Great to see plenty of activity on the forum again though.  Even though my operation was back in December I still have some niggling symptoms which I am hoping will resolve within the next couple of months.  One of them is forgetfulness which is a symptom which is supposed to clear up really quickly, so I'm a bit worried that there might be another cause for it.
Once again many many thanks to you clever people who have set this forum up.  It's a life saver!
Jasmine, I've found the post-op information you sent me really helpful, so thank you for that.

I should also have added - I would be willing to contribute financially for this wonderful forum. Just let me know when and how and how much.

I agree with everyone who has already posted their views, adding para looks good! I too feel you should not have to shoulder the finances and would be willing to contribute as well. I just feel so relieved to have found such a fantastic group of people who know what this illness can do to you. It makes me feel not alone and that is such a huge boost.
