Had my gastroscopy Empty Had my gastroscopy

Post by Lucycatnaps Wed Dec 17, 2014 12:25 am

Hi all,
I had my gastroscopy on Friday, results show I have a small hiatus hernia of 3cm and I also tested positive for H pylori.  After the gastoscopy I had some really sharp pain under my right shoulder blade but the nurse felt it was not related to the gastro.  It keeps recurring every evening and I wonder if it my gallbladder or maybe it is shoulder related. I saw my Gp today, been prescribed a load of antibiotics and changed to a PPI for two weeks.  I also had a chat about my progress and that FHH was still not ruled out until I get my genetic test back.  He thinks if we cure the H pylori my reflux will go but I am not convinced especially as it coincided with both times I have taken Vitamin D and that it is also a symptom of PHPT.  It will interesting to see if the mega antibiotic hit will have any effect on the ever present reactive node in my neck which has not changed for over a year now despite no obvious infection/inflammation.  The swollen egg area above the node has shrunk slightly but is still noticeable.  I still have loads to do before next week, I try and summon up some enthusiasm but am struggling a bit.  Sooo here is an awful cracker joke which did make me have a giggle as it is so bad.
Q. What is white and goes up??
A.  A confused snowflake.
Hugs everyone,
Sue x

Hi Sue good to hear the Gastroscopy went ok. Sorry to hear that you have a small hiatus hernia and H pylori but at least they are hitting it hard with antibiotics.
The pain you describe could either be something you strained whilst having Gastroscopy or it maybe gallbladder related. If it continues you could ask GP for a US that's how they discovered my gallstone.
Interesting that you have a reactive lymph node and so did Tigerlily and she had 3 adenomas out or could it be reacting to the reflux, I've not heard of this happening before but you never know.
I find vit d irritates my reflux even more.
I with you on the summing up enthusiasm, I feel like the confused snowflake. I have done the pressies but I can't get my head round what food I need.

Hi Sue

It's good that that the gastroscopy is over and done with and both h pylori and hiatus hernia can give reflux symptoms. My husband had h pylori donkeys years ago and it eventually disappeared with the aggressive treatment, though I seem to remember it took a long time. My mum has had a hiatus hernia for years. As you say, it will be interesting to see how other things may be affected by the large dose of antibiotics, particularly your reactive lymph node! You may be pleasantly surprised that the reflux will at least reduce with all those antibiotics.

I wonder what that sharp pain is, have you ever considered going to a Chiropractor? They are surprisingly knowledgeable about more than just bones. I had a sharp shoulder pain for 30 years after falling off a horse onto my shoulder. It turned out to be a problem in a top rib which gets deferred over to the shoulder!

I hope Christmas all comes together somehow for you. I am so disorganised (as usual) but it will probably throw itself together in some sort of fashion... I hope!

Take care and don't overdo it; look after yourself.

Love and hugs

Hi Sue

Sorry to hear you are suffering at the moment. Gallbladder pain can be referred to the shoulder area, I believe. I have a gallbladder "polyp" and have had intermittent shoulder tip pain for the last 2-3 years.

I'm resonating with your reactive lymph node. Mine was discovered in June this year by an alert US operator and it got so uncomfortable that I had to sit on the sofa to watch TV with my head tilted towards the left (away from the area). It was described as "a benign reactive lymph node", but in my view it had to be reacting to something. It's only after the PTH op and having had 2 juicy adenoma removed from that side (which did not show on any of the 3 ultrasounds I had, nor on the Hammersmith MIBI) that I think I can safely say that the lymph node might have been reacting to the presence of the two enlarged PTH adenoma. I will ask FP if this could have been the case when I see him on 6 Jan 2015.

I hope the antibiotics make you feel better as the H pylori can make you feel a bit grim, I'm sure.

Love and Hugs from Tigerlily xxxx

Hi everyone,
I had a routine US of abdomen last February as part of PHPT work up by my GP, it showed I have one large gallstone without any symptoms. I had a CT done back in 2007 and nothing showed then!   I am thinking maybe this pain in my upper back is either muscle or bone related or both, it is helped by ibugel so maybe not my gallbladder.  Collected my mega bundle of antibiotics and PPI today and also got some probiotics.  It will be interesting to see if your reactive node goes down Tigerlily now that you are relieved of those awful adenomas.  How are you feeling now? Almost a week post-op and I hope you are feeling more human.
Hugs everyone, Sue x
