16 days post op (DIana)
Hi everyone,
Happy New Year to you all.
I am recovering well, the scar itself is healing nicely and looks much better.
During the past 16 days i have had good and bad days, i call my bad days wibbly wobbly days because i usually feel sick dizzy and generally shakey this was worse in the first week it hasn't happened for a while.
The night time trips to the loo has stopped, i have more energy, no day times naps and the brain fog and headaches have gone.
My quality of sleep is still poor as i am also going through the menopause and my hot flushes and night sweats were previously mixed up with the Parathyroid symptoms and now the Parathyroid has been removed my menopause symptoms are difficult to handle constant hot flushes and night sweats. So i don't know if its my body recovering from the op or the menopause in full swing so to speak.
I will deffinately speak to FP on the 6th of January as i could give sweaty Betty a run for her money!!
But generally all is good and i am very thankful to have been under the care of FP and his team.
I wish you all well in your fight towards good health and hopefully 2015 will be a healthy and a happy New Year.
Love

Hi Diana,
Lovely to read your update and I'm glad things are improving.
There is a link between estrogen and Calcium so if you've had a sudden drop in levels that could explain the excessive sweating. I'd predict that your hormones will settle down naturally but you could try giving them a hand and have a little soya milk, tofu and lots of brocolli.
Interested to know what FP thinks.
Lots of love,
Dee

Hi Diana,
Great to here things are improving for you! It will take time for everything to settle down and normalize. At least things are getting better for you. After suffering as long as w have to before surgery, it is so wonderful when things start to turn around!
Happy, HEALTHY New Year to you too!

I am happy to hear your feeling better. Menopause is no fun, hope that passes for you also. Are you having more labs run? Have a happy New Year. Kathi

Oh I did want to ask you did they find your adenoma in the area that venous sampling pin pointed?

Hi Kathi,
yes the Venous Sampling was helpful in locating the etopic adenoma, but during surgery after the lower neck incision was made the adenoma was not as deep in the chest as first thought and FP was happy with the result.
Hope that helps

I do remember you saying that now, that is great. How much higher was the pth in that area. Mine is twice as high as baseline pth but my doc said it wasn't really impressive. I have to do another MRI ugh. Thanks Diana xxxx

Hi Kathi,
Mine was twice as high as the baseline PTH in that area also, but to confirm FP ordered a 4D CT and it was on the basis of the VS done at my local hospital and 4D CT scan that FP confirmed an abnormality and gave the go ahead for the operation, during the operation he checked the other 3 Parathyroids in the neck and they were all normal as previous scans in that area had all been negative.
Good luck with the MRI i know tests and scans are horrible to go through especially when you are anxious, but hang in there and God willing things will start moving forward for you xxxx

One would think that UCSF would have a 4d ct scanner but they don't, so hoping this MRI confirms something. Thanks again Diana.

Hi Diana
So pleased to hear you are recovering well!
You seem to be seeing the same improvements as I am: generally reduced trips to the loo (day and night); more energy and enthusiasm for projects and for life generally; staying awake for a whole 12 hours! and my headaches have also disappeared, along with the uncomfortable tightness along the back of my neck and the front of my clavicles.
My sleep has also not yet returned to normal. Once I wake and start thinking, then I can be awake for the next 4 hours. I've been taking Sainsbury's Herbal Nitol (green packet) each evening to help with this and if I get the timing right I can get a full night's sleep - and that is so welcome!!
It sounds as if you and I will both be seeing FP on Tues 6 Jan. I'm at the Hammersmith at 11am. I'll give you a wave if I think I see you there!
I do hope your improved health continues apace.

Hi Tigerlilly,
I am at Hammersmith on the 6th of January at 9.40am, so we might cross paths, i am glad your recovery is going well and apart from my mad hot flushes and night sweats we are recovering well.
I might try the herbal Nitol and see if it works, its a slow process but considering i can now function better daily it would be great to catch a few more hours.
Love
