Eyebrows ? What eyebrows !!

Post by Amanda Lynne on Tue Apr 08, 2014 7:52 am

Hi All
I've always had a good set if eyebrows (not quite Cara Delevinge) but enough that I needed to pluck them regularly however !!
They seem to be much finer and thinner so much that I'm using a pencil now to cover the finer bits up, luckily they are quite fair so it doesn't show much.  cyclops Is this hpth, thyroid or just time taking its toll.
I know it's nothing compared to all the other things we suffer with but I was just wondering if anyone else has this along with crappy nails that just flake off.

Yep, me too.....I hadn't actually related it to the PHPT but as my hair is thinning it would make sense.  What next?  Don't we suffer enough with what's going on inside without having the stress of the exterior falling apart too?!!!!

Hi Amanda and Jasmine

Disappearing eyebrows is a classic hypothyroid symptom, typically the outer 3rd of the eyebrow goes completely with the rest thinning. Hair thinning is also on the hypot list so double whammy if you have both hpth and hypot like me, great  Laughing

Eyebrow tinting works really well, I have had it down a few times and the results are pretty good.

I just hope my hair grows back  Neutral

Thanks Nelly I may try that, I'm a bit worried that they might look a bit dark and I'd look like one of the Marks Brothers or Dennis Healey affraid
Hair is not too bad (don't speak too soon) but not like it used to be. I find it breaks quite a bit and I'm ending up with layers that didn't used to be there.
Like Jasmine said, even if we feel rubbish on the inside if the outside doesn't look too bad it helps.

I'm hypothyroid as well as hyperpara, Nelly, ever since subtotal thyroidectomy back in 1995.  I have been taking levothyroxine for years now, currently on 200mcg daily.  Double whammy indeed.....!

Amanda - Dennis Healey?   affraid  You'd need to have an eyebrow transplant as well as tinting to achieve that look!  Which, incidentally, is NOT a good look ........  Shocked

Ha ha just looked it up and you can have an eyebrow transplant, don't think I will be bothering  Laughing

I was worried about colour of the tinting Amanda, I am very fair so didn't want them to look like 2 slugs out for the day ! but I had a mix of blond and grey tints and it came out really well, they were there but not obvious, just natural looking.

Jasmine I had a subtotal as well but way long ago, I'm on 100mcg now. Some say that Levo causes hair loss so we can't win which ever way we turn  Rolling Eyes

And this topic has given me my laugh for the day!   You're all hilarious!

I too am hypothyroid and hyperparathyroid.   My eyebrows too have thinned quite a bit, but being 50% Italian I could probably afford it.   Laughing    No, actually, I have over-plucked my brows for years, so I can't afford to lose any either.   I fill them in with a very soft pencil when I leave the house.  I don't think my cats care, so I don't worry about them when I'm here at home.  They still resemble eyebrows, just thin.    I just assumed it was from aging.   I guess it's probably from everything combined.   As far as a transplant and the site of the hair harvesting, can you just imagine what those brows would look like??  Shocked   I'm thinking Marx brothers' brows on steroids!     I think I'll keep my thin, straight hair!

Still laughing!

You guys are too funny!!!! bounce

I'm picturing me running after my cat so I can staple some of his fur to my face.

I've heard that too...that when the outside third of the eyebrows get thin...or my case---just gone, it signifies a thyroid problem.
Lovely. That's just what I need on top of everything else. I did have my level checked, but they won't get too in-depth with the blood work since the initial results came back normal.

I guess, I'll find out when I'm under the knife huh?

I'm gonna go rummage thru my Halloween costumes for a wig now. pale

I used to have a nice head of hair...oh and full eyebrows too.
Where's my cat????
