Re: is anybody there ?
Hi Nelly,
I am just about here, this rotten chest cold knows no bounds and does not want to give in any time soon, sure is a stinker. I have coughed so much that now have pulled a rib muscle so have to hang on to my side. I really need to get over to my Mums but can't with this lergy! I go to Hammersmith a week onTuesday so I hope I get my genetic results then. Spoke to my younger brother today, he had some bloods done recently and found out his D is low so they have put him on Fultium but his calcium is 2.3 so he definitely does not have FHH. How are things with you?? Any news on what they will do for your kidney stones. How is Edwin getting on with "Gerry"? Not done much since we got home as felt so yuck.
Take care, Sue

Hi Sue
So glad you popped in, we were beginning to feel lonely at Admin HQ
Not good you are still suffering with the lergy, hope you can be rid of it very soon and be back in action.
Edwin and Gerry are getting along OK thanks but recovering from the 3-4 days of bleeding is taking time, he is very anaemic so not able to do much at all. He has an appt with the cardio con next week so hopefully they will do something useful to get him better quickly.
I have heard nothing from the urologist which doesn't surprise me so I may well have to abandon that one and get a refferal elsewhere, trouble is where we live there is not much choice, lithotripsy machines are as rare as hens teeth around here.
We are in the midsts of fairly major house renovations so ever so slightly chaotic here but its all looking good so far. We live in a 200+ year old cottage which we are slowly restoring whilst undoing the million bodge jobs done over the years by previous residents quite scary some of the diy jobs that were done so badly
Do keep us posted on your Hammersmith visit, good news that your brothers calcium is OK, low d just about fits everyone so with luck the fultium will sort that for him.
Good luck with your appt and wishing you better very soon, thanks for popping in
Nelly, Edwin and Gerry xx

Hi Nelly Edwin & All
Sorry I've not been on forum for a while, I hope you get the stones sorted and zapped soon Nelly, Edwin sorry you are now anaemic,
It's such a pain when it's one thing after another get well soon.
I completely understand your problems re the bodge jobs on your property and the renovations you are doing, the company myself and my husband run mainly does property renovations and improvements and it's amazing what we find people have had bodged either by themselves or a "builder". Sometimes it takes as much time to repair these as it does to do the work they have asked us to quote for and we won't work on top of the bodged work.
Our own property is quite old too and needs fairly constant maintenance to keep it in good repair ( luckily I know a Man who can !)
Nothing much has changed health wise, I'm glad I got the private scan as I've not heard a thing from US dept ! Good job it isn't a stone.
Neither have I heard from the Gastro dept, so much for urgent referral. I'm still getting sore eyes (some days not as bad) still getting abdominal pain but no other symptoms with it,other than it's in the same place all the time, I've also had some sensitive skin issues. After spending some time trying to connect all my problems I've made a tentative look into Candida, there is a link to all the symptoms I have and looking back also the symptoms I've had after the last 3 ferritin infusions.
I'm wondering if after having the horrible gastric bug I had in October which must have completely stripped my gut of all good bacteria, then having this new ferritin infusion whether it has caused an imbalance in my system and caused the bad bacteria to overtake the good ? As I know nothing about Candida I don't know if I'm clutching at straws but if I did have the inflammatory bowel problems Rheumy is querying surely my inflammatory markers would show something and wouldn't I have symptoms related to that which I don't I only have pain and sore eyes.
If anyone has any knowledge of what Candida involves, I've currently got 2 mouth ulcers but no other sore bits !!! Please feel free to advise me on this.
Lucy I'm sorry you are still lurgeyfied be careful coughing that sounds painful and get better soon.
Audrey did you get any further with your heavy metal questions hope you are feeling better.
Love Amanda xxxx

Re: is anybody there ?
I'm still here too, reading the posts but not getting round to post. We're coming to the end of a big project at work, so it's been head down and focus on getting through it.
I don't know much about Candida Amanda, except there's a lot of non-science based speculation floating round the web often with mis-applied references. However, after own nasty my gastro bug two years ago, I did find some good research into how probiotics can help get your digestive bacteria back on track...from memory it was recommending live yoghurt, sauerkraut, maybe oats as well. There was a certain probiotic bacteria that was especially effective but I can't remember the name. I'll let you know if I can track down the reference.
Nelly and Edwin I'm even more impressed that you look after the forum so well, on top for your health issues AND renovating (surely one of the most stress-inducing activities known to man).
Audrey, wishing you success in getting to the bottom of the itching. The only thing I've ever found gives temporary relief in reducing itching is blasting the area with heat to overload the skin sensors.
Sue, hoping your Hammersmith appt goes well and things start speeding up for you so your body can return to fighting fitness.
Lots of love,
Dee

Re: is anybody there ?
Hi Amanda,
Will you let us know when you get your scan results.
Just wanted to say, I took a treatment for candida years ago and it helped my gi problems. I believe I must have had candida overgrowth of the gi tract.
Have you heard of turmeric? I had heard of it but decided to buy the root and cook it. I cut it up and put it in broth and do believe it helped the gi problems I was having.
Just wanted to send this link. I'll try to block out the sales portion of the information. If it's as good an antinflammatory as is thought, it might be beneficial for some of us.
Well I couldn't selectively delete the sales portion of it but just ignore that if you would.
Glad your eyes feel somewhat better.
xxx, Nancy

One site that I had promoted it as a powerful antiinflammatory.
Just thought I would pass it along.

<<Healing Properties of Turmeric
Turmeric is a natural preservative, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antibiotic. In addition it strengthens digestion and helps improve intestinal flora. Eating turmeric with meals helps prevent gas. >>
This is just a little more about turmeric.
I hope I am not giving anyone the thought that I am a strong proponent of alternative medicine because I am not. It's just that I think this root may have some beneficial affects for people.
We all know what some commercially prepared meds and their side affects can do to people at times.

Hi Nancy how are you ?
Thank you for the links about Tumeric, I have used it in cooking before but wasn't aware about its health properties, I'll have to give it a go.
I've had a private US which scanned all of abdomen minus bowel and that was all clear, no stones no cysts infact bar a few small fibroids no problems at all which is good. However it doesn't explain the constant discomfort in right hand side and apart from being a bit bunged up I don't have any other symptoms, this is why I'm looking at all possibilities they could account for this pain plus sore eyes and Candida came on to my radar I've ordered some stronger probiotics from health food shop to see if there's anything that I can do to sort this out as I'm fed up waiting for DR's to do it.

I saw something abouts the health benefits of Tumeric a few days ago, but cannot remember where.

Re: is anybody there ?
Oooh lovely to see some action on the forum again.
I have to admit we aren't doing the renovations, we have a very patient plasterer and team who project manage everything and all trades for us. Turned out the oldest part is a cob construction which over the last 3-4 years has caused major problems but we are no longer in danger of falling down . Had the joiner here for 2 weeks doing doors and so on, next week slate tiles go down, going to be fun with 3 dogs and 3 cats getting in the way I really enjoy all the work going on, we found a secret safe under one of the floors and the remains of the original staircase behind a false wall. My dream would be a big derelict country house to renovate
I don't know anything about candida but it appears many times on the thyroid forum, guess there might be a connection as there is with eye problems. My eyes are really not good but I think its to do with an antibody flare.
Well its good to be chatting again everyone, thanks for dropping in.

In one of my hospital stays in the last few years, they gave-out Actimel with breakfast, which I thought was interesting, especially as I am on continuous Penicillin (no spleen).
I am under no illusions about its effectiveness, but I have been taking Actimel most mornings since and I think that now have fewer digestive system disruptions.
The following may be interesting:

My heart is working properly again.
Gerry occasionally reminds me of his presence.
My current challenge is getting over the blood loss when my wound would not heal for several days.
When I left hospital my Hb was 8.2 so I have a long way to go before it increases to my target range of 10 - 12.
Even climbing the stairs leaves me exhausted, but things are gradually improving.
Yesterday was the first day that I did not have to have an afternoon sleep.
I managed a trip to Tesco today, so this is good progress.

Glad to hear you are slowly improving, look after yourself. That article was very interesting I'm taking actmel or yakult which ever is on offer at Waitrose but I suspect I may need a stronger dose so. I'll see if the health food one makes any difference.

Re: is anybody there ?
I have just managed to lose a whole page so will try doing this in a nutshell. I took mega antibiotics over Christmas for H PYlori, did not want an upset so took Actimel and yoghurt, although one of those TV docs last year looked into probiotics and said they were only as good for as long as you took them. Found out about a fermented milk called Kefir, it is popular in eastern europe, we have lots of independent shops catering to field workers and found it in there. It is way cheaper than Yakult etc. Also did research on making it myself and got some kefir grains from ebay this week, so early days but so far so good. It looks like tiny cauliflower grains and it ferments the non homogenised milk so am using gold top. I am not a great milk drinker but so far it has not upset my tummy.
Lots of stuff on You tube and wiki
Amanda, how is Tazz doing now?? I am sorry your eyes are still causing you grief, it just seems to be continuous but I do know many are convinced by the candida theory. I hope you hear something soon from the hospital and ouchie on the mouth ulcers, they can be so painful.
Nelly and Edwin,
Gosh that is an undertaking, we did look at an old farmhouse but it really needed a lot of work and was not for the faint hearted. Our present house was on its sell by date so just renewing kitchen and redecorating everywhere took a long time! I do battle with the garden as well and it is winning. We have some big trees! It must be fascinating unearthing the past.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, M and S meal deal tonight so need to throw chicken in oven.
Hugs you guys,
Sue x

Re: is anybody there ?
Hi Sue that's very interesting and worth researching, Tazzy is better on the thyroid tablets she's putting on weight and isn't constantly yowling for food. The tuna tablet trick has now stopped working and she's been picking the tuna off the tablet so I've been trying out other things.
Thought I'd got it right with corned beef !!!! It has to be malleable enough to mould round the tablet but it worked for a week then she sussed it ! Now we are on pate which seems to be working for now.........phew. She's still pulling fur along her spine and vet now agrees with me that it could be a bit of arthritis in spine and right hip so when this lit of bloods are back she will try her on pain relief to see if that works. She's also said her back teeth need a bit of work !!!!!
As house restoring/refurbishment is our trade I love all the stories you are telling about your properties. Nelly & Edwin you are definitely doing the right thing by getting the proper trades in and having it project managed that way it runs much more smoothly and it sounds fantastic.
Sue we also have big trees a couple of massive oak trees one approx 300 yrs old (hubby worked that one out by measuring the circumference of trunk. Another has a huge scar on the bottom of it where a bomb was dropped in the fields we back on and blew the roof of of the house. We were told this by people living in the house during WW2.
M&S dinner sounds good I haven't even considered it yet !!

I'm still here too, dipping in and out, but going through a massive energy dip and needing to sleep all the time thing (Edwin - oh, I'm so with you on the stairs thing, my legs feel like I'm wearing old fashioned divers boots going up them, and I live in a three storey house ) and mostly reading posts with the intention of replying - after I've had a little snooze .......
