Something Off Topic - Need Ladies Advice
Hi Ladies,
I'm sorry to post this but at a bit of a loose end at the moment.
I'm 31, no HPTH diagnosis as still convincing doctors to monitor me, I need regular 6 month Thyroid tests as Mum is Hyperthyroid and I experience a lot of symptoms. I noticed when I woke up on Fri I had a little light brown stain in the middle of my vest, in the chest area, I didn't think much of it. As I was getting dressed I became curious, trying to figure out what it was, I could only think that it must be n*pple leakage, but because it wasn't on my breast area, I couldn't work it out. So, I decided to squeeze my n*pple and a tiny drop came out from a few of the ducts, it was so minor there was hardly anything there. So I put 2 and 2 together and thought the stain must be from my n*pple and my vest must have got tangled in the night and squeezed that particular Breast, if that makes sense. I haven't had anything since, I'm literally checking 24/7 and it's really playing on my mind.
Of course I have googled, scared the life out of myself with some threads but also read positive stuff that it's normal and is common in women. Over the years I've noticed tiny spots in my bra but I've had that for years I read it could also be hormone related, I am due on my period, I'm irregular so am currently 2 days overdue and also a symptom of severe Hypothyroidism. I check my breasts very regularly and there are no abnormalities or pain etc. I get a tight shoulder which affects my whole right side of just needing unknotting!
Sorry to post this and I do hope the thread hasn't offended anyone. I am at the GP this week so I will mention it but wondered if anyone has ever experienced this at all?
Thank You
Lucie

Hi Lucie
I can't really give you much advice but could you have an infection ? It could be a small problem in there or as you say hormonal. I'd definitely get GP to check it out mainly to put your mind at ease, I'm sure it's nothing bad so try not to worry.

Hi Amanda,
When I was 16 I had Mastitis so I sort of know what a Breast Infection feels like but I could be wrong! I can't for the life of me think of another reason for that stain, even though it's not right on the Breast area. I think I know there is nothing to worry about BUT I can't help think of horrible things and read every possible thread on it. According to the NHS website it's normal and give a list of possibilities but I suppose until I visit my GP I'll torture myself lol
Thank you

Sorry I can't help with this either, Lucie. I have never had to deal with that, so I am uneducated on the matter. As Amanda suggested, you really do need to get that checked out by a doctor. Could be nothing serious, but you'd feel better knowing for sure.

Thank you Audrey, I will speak to my GP. My Mum is Hyperthyroid and she had so many hormonal issues when she was younger which resulted in a Hysterectomy at 37 so I really want to ask her if she ever experienced this but at the same time, being a mother myself, I don't want to panic her. She's always said my symptoms are the same as hers! I did find this though and found it interesting:
What Problems Could Leaking Nipples Indicate?
While it is more than likely that your leaking nipples are not any cause for alarm, there are times when a nipple discharge can be indicative of something serious. If you are not nursing and the fluid comes out like milk and is free flowing, you should have your prolactin levels checked. Over production of prolactin in non-lactating women can be indicative a pituitary problem. Your doctor may want to check your thyroid, as certain thyroid imbalances can cause unusual nipple discharges.

Hi Lucie
Yes, checking your prolactin level would be a good idea. I'm sure if you tell your GP about your symptoms they will be able to check the level of this hormone (and other pituitary hormones - see http://www.patient.co.uk/health/the-pituitary-gland) for you. My GP was able to order the test when I asked for it to rule out any pituitary issues.
If they say they cannot order this test, then ask to be referred to an endocrinologist with experience of pituitary issues.
Let us know how you get on with your GP first though.

Hi TigerLily
Thank you for your reply. I did read about Prolactin and I'm seeing my GP tomorrow. My aim tomorrow is to leave there with some Calcium & PTH blood tests lined up as well have getting my Thyroid levels checked again. Have been doing lots of research on the "Breast leakage" situation and I came across an article today on a Forum that somebody seems to think it's also linked to Parathyroid! I will bring it up tomorrow and I need to be brave and not leave the room until I have those blood test forms! Grrrrrrrrrr!
Thank you

Re: Something Off Topic - Need Ladies Advice
You go, girl! You will be fine.
Good to have an aim in these consultations so we don't get flustered. It is such a clear and undeniable symptom that you are presenting with that the GP will be obliged to investigate.
If they look as though they are not going to oblige, then ask to be referred to a specialist who will be able to "put your mind at rest", is the way I would phrase it.
Let us know how it goes.
