Anyone else take Cipro? Empty Anyone else take Cipro?

Post by Little Audrey Thu Apr 23, 2015 3:36 pm

I think I might have finally figured out what has been causing my nonstop twitching, tendon, muscle, and joint pain!    I know I have heard before that Cipro can affect the central nervous symptom and the tendons and muscles, but that was a few years ago, and I guess it slipped my mind.   I have no idea how it could have, except for the fact that my brain was not functioning properly at that time!

As mentioned earlier on the forum, all of these symptoms started 4-1/2 years ago.   I blamed them all on HPT.    Then when they didn't resolve, I blamed them on the hypothyroidism.    Well, it looks like they might be occurring from something altogether different!!    I think it might be the darned Cipro causing them all!

Four and a half years ago, the tendons in my inner thighs and my upper arms because VERY stiff and painful.    My heels and the bottoms of my feet started hurting terribly!  If you recall, the heels were so painful, I was on crutches for about 4 months.    I also started twitching nonstop all over my body!     For several months now, I have been twitching nonstop in all 4 eyelids, and intermittently in both calves.     Also 4-1/2 years ago, my neck, shoulder, and upper back muscles became VERY stiff and painful!   This has also been nonstop for all of those years.     About a month ago, my lower back, both hips, and both knees started to ache terribly!     My thighs and upper arms are stiffened up even more and have become so painful, I am having a lot of trough walking!     I have been living in Hell from all of this constant pain!

I am not sure how long I have been using Cipro.   It was prescribed to me a few years ago for chronic UTIs.   But I am betting it was 4-1/2 years ago!!!     I have put in a call to my urologist to find out!

I learned from my research that Cipro is well know for causing ALL of these symptoms and is VERY toxic to the body!     I have checked out several forums regarding this, and MANY people have suffered the exact same symptoms I am suffering!!       I learned it can take years to recover after this happens, once you stop taking the drug.    Since I have been getting several UTIs a year and using Cipro every time (the last time being 2-1/2 weeks ago), I'm guessing I have a VERY long way to go to recover, if I CAN recover.    I am VERY unhappy that none of my doctors thought to mention any of this to me, especially the urologist!!        I guess I can excuse some of my doctors, because I don't list the Cipro on my list of medications, since I don't take it daily.     I guess that was a bad move on my part!    Maybe one of the doctors would have picked up on this had I included it!

I am VERY excited to think I might have FINALLY figured out why my tendons, muscles, and joints have been hurting so badly for so long and why I have been twitching nonstop!   I have seen just about every type of specialist trying to figure this out.     It made no sense to any of them.     I wish I would have mentioned the darned Cipro!!!

Today is my daughter's 40th birthday.   I am taking her out to lunch to celebrate.   I sure hope the urologist does not return my call while I'm out.   I REALLY want to talk to her about this and get a different antibiotic for future UTIs!

Audrey - this is some fantastic news - not that you have been suffering for so long with all of this, but that you may have found the answer to the problem!

And I do hope that you were able to enjoy your lunch with your daughter - 40 is the new 30, tell her!

I don't suffer with UTI's but I did have very uncomfortable cystitis one time. I was researching a natural remedy for it and came across something called Waterfall-D-Mannose. You might like to research it and see if you can get it in the US.

Do let us know what the medics say about the Cipro. It's so easy for medications to get forgotten if you only take them occasionally. I hope this is the key to the problem for you.

Love from Tigerlily xx

Thanks for your comments, Tigerlily.   I actually have been taking D-mannose for about a year or more now, and I take a LOT of it!   The bottle suggests taking 3 capsules a day for maintenance.    I tried 3.  That didn't work.  I tried 5.  That didn't work.   I tried more and more and more until I finally thought I had figured it out.   I now take 10 capsules a day!    This seemed to be working until January.   I have now had 4 UTIs in 4 months!   I have been telling my doctors for many years that there is no possibly way bacteria can be getting into my bladder externally.  There is just no way!    I never had a UTI in my life until I hit the age of 48.   I did not start doing anything at all differently at the age of 48 to start causing these things.    Last year I told my PA that there MUST be a way the bacteria is getting into my bladder internally.   I asked her if that was possible.   I had never researched this before that time, but I started thinking about something my OB/GYN told me several years ago when I had my bladder lift surgery.   He told me he had tacked my bladder to my intestines.     This made me wonder if possibly there was some damage in there, creating an opening from the bladder to the intestines, and maybe that is how the bacteria is entering my bladder.       My PA told me that if I had a fistula in there, the bacteria could indeed find its way into my bladder that way.      I asked her if I could be tested for a fistula.  She sort of scrunched up her nose and told me it is a very involved process, and I didn't want to have that done.    REALLY?????     Did she think it was better that I take antibiotics 8 times a year.   Antibiotics that are toxic to my system and probably causing me to be sicker in other ways?!    So I kept trying different supplements to try to resolve this problem.    I thought I had it figured out, as I only had 2 UTIs in a 6-month period last year.    Then starting this past January, I started getting them VERY often again!    I have not changed anything.   I don't know what is going on.     I am going to call my urologist's office today and INSIST they test me for a fistula!!      They have been telling me if I am getting 6 or more UTIs a year, I am going to have to start taking a daily antibiotic.    I REALLY do NOT want to do that, but I also can't continue taking stronger antibiotics 8 times a year!!      I am so tired of dealing with health crap!!!

Well, I really do have to run for now.   I will be back later on today.
