Palpitations

Hi

At the beginning of may I had a telephone conversation with a endo, I mentioned that I was getting palpitations and he said that palpitation was not connected to HPT.

Yesterday I went to my GP as I was worried about the amount and duration of the palpitations i was getting, she also commented that she did not think palpitations were connected to HPT.  I disagree with this and Ive noticed that other people on this forum have listed palpitations as a symptom they are suffering with.  Has anyone else been told this?

During the examination the GP said that she had heard a heart murmur and wanted to do some tests, bloods, echo, ECG, ultrasound of heart.  Has anyone been down this road? 

I am so sick of feeling ill! I am feeling particularly sorry for myself today as I cant shifted this headache, legs and arms ache, sick, dizzy, palpitations, cant focus and get my jobs done and soooo tired.

Yep been down that road, had an angiogram and told possible microvascular angina but I think it could be connected to hpth or thyroid which is what I had originally thought. I get a lot of missed beats (ectopic) but the cardiac doc said it's not important (maybe not for him !!!)

Palps are very common and usually difficult to know whats causing them and unfortunately once we are worried by them it can make it worse, bit of a vicious circle.

Try not to worry, it's good you are being investigated so anything serious can be ruled out.

I to have had a headache for days, very annoying

I've also been down the 24 hr ECG which showed ectopic beats, as Nelly said I was also told not important. I get it quite a lot especially when I take vit d. I have had headache for a month now combined with neck and back ache, it really gets you down.
I'd say any tests they do are a good idea as it rules out all other problems.

Thanks for your replies.

GP mentioned a 24hr ECG if the 20 min ECG doesn't show anything. The blood test was for various things but one was to check my thyroid function.  
Really sorry Amanda you`ve had head, back and neck ache for a month now are you taking anything for it? 

I hope you and Nelly get rid of your headaches soon. I`m going to right today off and hope tomorrows a better one for us all.

I've been given muscle relaxant from GP but they just made me feel bad, I'm managing to take coproxamol which I haven't been able to take for a while and they help a bit. I'm seeing chiropractor every couple of wks he thinks it's all to do with muscles going into spasm so it could be PTH related, try telling docs that though.
I do hope you get some answers soon and also your headache goes.

Just a thought - but I take T3 only for my hypothyroidism and they always ask about palpitations in connection with that. In fact, they have advised me not to take the full 30 mcg of T3 (liothyronine) all at once in the morning for fear of it affecting my heart and causing palps. Then on the other hand they tell me that 20mcg in the morning and a forgotten dose of 10 mcg later in the day is an "inadequate" replacement of T3 hormone, so slapped wrists for that as well.

Just an idle thought re the palpitations.

Mel, it may be worth getting your haemoglobin and iron checked.  Mine have been low for the last couple of months and I have had palpitations, which have gone since my recent iron infusion.

Tigerlily, there is a risk with taking T3 of having heart problems with either too much or too little thyroid hormone in the system at the extreme ends of the scale.  From what I have read, this can lead to irregular heart-beats and is serious.
There is so much conflicting information on when to take T3 that it is difficult to find the right answer.
I am taking 20mcg T3 and 75mcg T4 and my endo asked me to split the T3 into 2 doses, 12-hours apart (I've not noticed any difference compared with taking 20mcg in the morning).  Then again, the endo said that the correct dose for my weight and age should be 3mcg and I know that this is inadequate.
I have experienced palpitations when I have felt under or over medicated for my thyroid.

I too had very frequent palpitations for 3 years before my parathyroid surgery. I don't have them at all now. Coincidence? I don't think so. Yes, MANY people with HPT have heart palpitations. It's been a while since I looked at the symptom list on Dr. Norman's site, but I believe this is listed as a symptom on Dr. Norman's site, isn't it?

It's ok to feel sorry for yourself, Mel. We've all done it. It's very hard not to when you feel as lousy as you so with this $%#$%$ disease! There are a lot of shoulders to cry on here. That's why we're here. Hopefully, you will feel better soon, but in the mean time, we're happy to listen and help you to smile again.
