Another negative sestamibi

Hello again

Thank you for your help when we last spoke in August.

I've now had my Dexa scan, sestamibi & seen the surgeon at Norfolk & Norwich hospital.  I saw the surgeon last Friday & she told me bone density was low, sestamibi was negative so they would have to investigate both sides and expose both sides of thyroid. You suspected that might happen Nelly as I've had previous neck surgery for reactive lymph node (many years ago). She also said that I would have an ultrasound but I'd hear separately from radiology. I heard from radiology yesterday and have to have ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration. Gulp! She didn't tell me that! However, she's also referred me for surgery which she reckons will be within next 3 months. 

Surgery department is ENT rather than Endo. I asked the young surgeon I saw who would be doing the op and she said it would probably be her and the senior surgeon (he specialises in head & neck cancers).

I would appreciate any help/comments. Getting a bit scared now!

That's really good news. Interesting you had a negative mibi scan because I was chatting with another member, Annie, yesterday about this happening, goes to show it happens more often than not, there are a lot of us who have had negative or iffy scans.

Do you have any nodules or lumps and bumps ? a FNA is usually done for that reason, not heard of it being done for hpth. Lots on the thyroid forum have it done and I believe its fairly easy but not one I can help with really.

ENT surgeons will be fine as long as they have done enough pth ops to have the experience, my surgeon was actually a renal transplant surgeon but he also specialised in thyroid and parathyroid ops.

Previous neck surgery can make it a little more complicated because of the scar tissue but I'm sure you will be fine, hopefully they will find the blighter quickly and be done and I do think having all 4 checked is better than not.

Sounds like you are being looked after well and they are doing all the right things, you can look forward to a new you in the new year !

Good luck with the FNA and keep us posted on progress, especially op date so we can keep everything crossed on the day any question before or after don't forget we are here and will do our best to answer.
