The general symptoms of Primary Hyperparathyroidism are listed below.

Low energy / fatigue.


Generally don’t feel well / Don’t feel normal.


Feel older than your years.


Lost interest in things that you used to.


Can’t concentrate, or can’t keep your concentration like in the past – find it difficult to read or keep concentration watching a film.


Depression.


Osteoporosis and Osteopenia (below normal bone density but not bad enough to be classed as Osteoporosis.)


Bone pain usually in the bones in the legs and arms but can be other bones.


Muscle Pain (Myalgia) – sore muscles, gnawing pain, burning pain, muscle stiffness if sat or stood in same place for too long.


Joint Pain/inflammation (arthritis)


Dehydration


Thirst


Frequent trips to pass urine – with possible trips to toilet during the night.


Poor sleep. Broken sleep. Trouble getting to sleep.


Tired and sleepy during the day.


Irritable and more likely to snap at people.


Poor short term memory (did I just put sugar in that tea?), Can’t remember names for people and things easily.


Gastric acid reflux; heartburn; GERD.


IBS like symptoms.


Decrease in sex drive – low libido.


Thinning hair (mainly in middle aged women on the front part of the scalp).


Kidney Stones. (Small Kidney stones may occur without symptoms. Symptoms of kidney stone pain may be dull or sharp pain round the back and front where the ribcage tucks in sometimes moving to the groin area).


High Blood Pressure


High Cholesterol.


Insulin resistance or mild elevation of blood sugar.


Recurrent Headaches (usually patients under the age of 40).


Heart Palpitations (arrhythmia).


Itching skin.


Red eye (conjunctivitis), dry eyes, gritty eyes.



Tinnitus (ringing in the ears).


Rib pain / inflammation - General tenderness in the ribs and or inflammation in the joints where the ribs sit in the breast bone (sternum) - the medical term for this is Costochondritis.


Calcific Tendinitis (inflammation of tendons esp. elbow, ankle, knee, shoulder) caused by calcium deposits on the tendons.


Pseudo-gout (inflamed, tender painful joints caused by calcium deposits in the joints).


Lightheaded/dizziness/vertigo.


Poorer dental health/receding gums/increase in dental caries.


Pins & Needles (paraesthesia) or feeling of a limb "falling asleep".
