Venous Sample results back!
Hi everyone,
Friday morning i asked my GP to chase up my Parathyroid venous sample results as i have been waiting for nearly 6 weeks, so the end result is that he managed to get the results faxed over to him fro the hospital and he read them over the phone to me, well i am given to understand that i have a parathyroid lesion in my chest ( couldn't tell me where in the chest) so i am being referred to a specialist unit at Hammersmith London, as this is out of my local hospitals expertise.
It has taken me a while to absorb this news i feel a little scared, nervous, but relieved as well.
Thank you all for your advice and kindness.
Take Care

You're a very special case, Diana and they will treat you very well I'm sure. I know it's easy to say not to worry, but it looks like you'll get the best treatment from a very experienced team as Lozza says.
Best of luck.

Diana, this is GREAT news! I mean, it's not great news to know you have a tumor, but when you're this sick, and you finally learn the cause and find the source, that is GREAT news!! Hopefully, soon you can have surgery and feel well again!

Hi Diana
I'm pleased they found the adenoma and do understand why you feel nervous and scared but they have found it and can now operate and get you well again.

Brilliant news Diana, SO pleased for you. Yes, all sorts of emotions now, without doubt, but they've found it that's the main thing and you're being referred to a centre of excellence for your treatment which is even better news. Hope you get to see Mr Palazzo, but whoever you see you're in the best possible place. Keep us posted, I'm really excited for you and looking forward to following your onward journey to wellness - YAY!

Re: Venous Sample results back!
Hi Diana
My endo will be setting me up for venous sampling as sestamibi said adenoma lit up in my chest MRI did not confirm that . so endo said it was important to locate the bad gland as exploratory neck surgery would not be possible if its in the chest area were sestamibi lit up, its to deep. I know it is more often located in the thymus. How was the procedure for venous sampling? Did you have any problems with that. Please do keep us informed. Best of luck.

Re: Venous Sample results back!
Hi Kathi209,
I had the venous sampling on the 16/4/2014, i had no problems the procedure went well , the consultant radiologist who did the procedure was efficient and very caring.
Having the venous sample was a tad uncomfortable, but at the end of the day in my case it was needed because i have had all the scans (not an MRI) and they were all negative!
I think the PVS highligts the level of PTH in the veins and if the amount is twofold or raised in a certain part of the body it is a good indication of where the Parathyroid tumour is, in my case they said the chest.
After the procedure they will apply pressure to your tiny incision and then you will be monitored in a ward for a short while, blood pressure etc then you are free to go home.
My appointment was 9am and i came home with my daughter at about 1pm, it would have been a little earlier but my blood pressure dropped, but after a a cup of tea and a digestive biccy i was fine.
I hope this reassures you and all the best.

Thanks for the info, I feel better about it. Ultrasound scans I know will never find it if its in your chest the sound waves can not go through bone. Thanks again, I will be following all your posts, foot tapping and waiting for what they will do for you next.
P.S Have you had a sestamibi scan? All the best to you Kathi

HI Kathi,
Yes i had a sestamibi, parathyroid ultrasound scan, CT scan of the neck and the mediastinum, all were negative, incidently they were all done by the same Consultant Radiologist who performed the PVS.
i will let you know what happens next, take care.
